Dissolved Oxygen

This video provides instruction on how to collect a water sample to monitor it for dissolved oxygen as well as instruction in how to use a Hach dissolved oxygen kit to analyze the sample.

Habitat

This video provides instruction on how to conduct a habitat assessment using the Water Action Volunteers methods. Each of the ten questions for the rocky and soft bottom habitat assessments are covered, to provide citizens with detailed information about scoring each question at their monitoring site.

Macroinvertebrates

This video explains how macroinvertebrates are used to assess water quality using a biotic index. Instruction is provided to help monitors choose which habitats to sample at a monitoring site as well as how to conduct sampling with the suggested monitoring equipment. Instruction is also provided in identification of macroinvertebrates to (primarily) order level using the Key to Macroinvertebrate Life in the River.

Stream Flow

This video demonstrates WAV methods to monitor stream flow, or the volume of water passing a point in a given time period. Site selection tips, and monitoring techniques for depth, width, and water velocity are provided.

Temperature

This video provides instruction in how to monitor stream water temperature using a handheld thermometer.

Transparency

This video explains why transparency, or water clarity, is an important measure of water quality in streams. Instruction is provided in how to use a transparency (or turbidity) tube and how to convert readings obtained using the tube (in cm or inches) to NTUs.
