Root-Pike River Basin Monitoring Group

Root River 2000 - Park High School

Four biology classes at Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin, have been monitoring sites along the Root River since 1997. Approximately 450 students participate in the monitoring effort and their results are summarized by their teacher and submitted to the WAV database. The group has monitored up to nine sites along, but currently monitors two sites on the Root River at the Golf Course Bridge, and at outfall #1, both in Racine County. They monitor transparency, biotic index, dissolved oxygen, pH, and water and air temperature several times throughout the year. Their data are entered to the citizen stream monitoring database; search by Racine County or Root River to see their results. They are currently coordinated by teach Joanna Cullum.
