Citizen-based Stream Monitoring Symposium
Devil’s Lake State Park
October 6, 2007

Dear Citizen Monitors,

The information presented at this Symposium was not new. Well, I should say that it was not new to the presenters, but it may be new to you. That was the whole point of holding a symposium on Citizen Based Stream Monitoring.

We wanted to ensure that you received information, support, and encouragement to pursue your interest. That goes for those interested in knowing a bit more about your neighboring stream, as well as those who want to take action to improve and protect the water resources in your communities and watershed.

During the year that I have coordinated the stream monitoring pilot project, I have received a lot of questions from all of you, who take the time to monitor your home streams every month. Holding a symposium was our attempt at providing some answers to the many questions left previously unanswered. You will notice that it took a whole lot of help to do this, and I thank those individuals who gave presentations.

The following newsletter gives a summary of the presentations given at the Symposium. Click on the link to the upper right to access the summary and presentations. Also, you will find a summary of the data you and your groups have collected over the last one or two years while participating in the pilot project. I think that this is the least we can provide you for the time you have put in and for the enjoyment you have given me.

Thanks so much,

Chris Clayton
